Valeria Bertesina, painting techniques and artists' book teacher, offers a unique course  in the exclusive and spectacular location in Vicenza  at Villa Valmarana ai Nani   one of the Palladian Villas of Veneto (northen Italy )  enlisted as  Unesco world Heritage Site.
The course is intensive and includes:

  • Watercolor Technical and theory
  • Brief history of watercolor painting
  • Assembling and binding a Coptic stitch journal “carnet d’artiste”  to be used for  preparatory drawings and sketches.

The course  is outlined for beginners  as well as for more  advanced students who want to  improve  their skills an dextend their  capabilities.
The beautiful location also offers the  opportunity for spending a weekend in the   almost  intact view of the  surroundings Villa Valmarana  is  one of the few Villas that still enjoys its original landscape .
The Villa it is a 3 –part building , La Palazzina (the main building) and the  Foresteria (the guest-rooms) both  decorated with frescoes  by Giambattista and Gianodomenco Tiepolo,. The   Scuderia (the Stable)  ,  for  a long period the main residence of  of Carlo Scarpa,,  In this respect  Villa Marana is undoubtedly the highest expression  of  Eighteenth Century Italian Painting. And one of most supreme examples of Tiepolo’s work.


All of the lessons (with the exception of the first one) will be hold  “en plein air”  . Therefore the subjects will be the evocative surroundings:: the  rose garden, the Italian garden, the woods and  the  beautiful Chinese gazebo , the amazing view of the hill nearby, the sanctuary of  Monte Berico, Palladio’s Masterpiece Villa La Rotonda.

In case of bad weather the lessons will be hold indoor in the Villa’s rooms.


DATES AND PROGRAM
From 3 to 5 September 2010

The  course will be held on reservation with at least one month in advance.
Friday 3pm- 6pm Theory and exercises – Assembling the journal
Saturday
9 am –12.30 pm outdoor lesson “en plain air” outdoor -  11 am 10 minute- coffe break – 2.30 pm 5.30 pm painting outdoor lesson
Sunday 9 am- 12.30  painting outdoor lesson

BASIC MATERIAL NEEDED
Drawing pencil, pencil sharpening tool, eraser, . watercolor paper blocks, brushes (different types and sizes) ,watercolor paintbox or selection of tubes  (basically your palette needs one cool and one warm hue of the primaries, 3 secondary colors- at most, and one or two versatile neutrals), fold-up stool to paint in the open air, cloth for wiping brushes on, bottle of water.

COURSE FEE AND PAYMENT:
Price : € 250 per person.
The quote includes:
Watercolor and artist’s journal course (13/14 hours), all of the materials needed to sew the journal, the entrance ticket to the Villa.
A deposit of € 100 has be to be  sent through bank wire transfer one month  before the course starts.
Accommodation:
The Nani apartment is situated  in the 1st walk up floor of The Foresteria Building. It is a 3 bedroom – apartment (1 double bed + 2 single beds), 2 bathrooms,  a fully equipped kitchen is integrated in the spacious  living room The cost of the entire apartment is € 600.
It is also possible to rent the apartment for  the entire week. Cost   €1.000.
Alternatively we can suggest accommodation solutions   nearby the Villa.

The program may vary  In case of bad weather or unforeseen events .

Specifically in case of bad weather  the lessons will be held indoors in one of the Villa’s rooms and will focus  on still life subjects.

VILLA VALMARANA AI NANI 

Villa malmarana is a splendid  3 building architectural complex.
The Palazzina (The master residence)  (1669)-  the Scuderia (the Stable ) and the Foresteria ( the Guest-Room ) (1720) .
The Villa is surrounded by a bueatiful park . Both the Foresteria and the Scuderia were frescoed by  Giambattista e Giandomenico Tiepolo . they were commissioned by .Giustino Valmarana to paint the Aeneid, the Orlando Furioso (the Frenzy o f Orlando) The Jerusalem Delivered, The sacrifice of Iphigenia
Tiepolo’s son frescoed the Foresteria (Guest  Room) . Here the classic themes are abandoned in favour of a  more contemporary flavour.
The Chinese world, the peasant world , the Venetian Carneval.
In the Foresteria is also exhibited the only known Palladio’s portrait.

Valeria Bertesina – Credentials
Valeria Bertesina studied at :
Art Lyceum in Padova
International University of Art in Venice
International University of Grafic Design in Venice
She attended several international painting and graphic design workshops and stages.
Several painting and graphic stages and workshops
She heads drawing , watercolour , botanical painting, graphic design and artists’ book programs .
She teaches Artist book at the School of Binding  in Vicenza and in Arezzo at the International Calligraphic Centre.
She holds watercolor and artist’s book courses in Italy and abroad.
Her works have been exhibited in individual and collective  exhibitions .
She pays the utmost attention to the relation between the  drawing and the graphic character trait.
Her books can be found in several art collections, archives and foundations and at  Archives of Italian  National Library
